Laser Cut Round Box Generator

A round box built entirely from flat parts. Vertical staves slot into a bottom plate and a top ring, so there is nothing to bend. Pick the diameter, height and number of staves; leave a gap between them for a lantern, or close them up for a solid box.

Diameter measured

Includes the base plate and top ring; the lid sits on top.

Walls

More staves look rounder but each one is narrower.

0 for a closed box. A gap lets light through, like a lantern.

Base and ring

How far the base and ring reach past the walls.

The top ring must cover the stave tabs with some wood to spare.

Enter your real sheet thickness; 3 mm plywood is often 2.8 to 3.2. Cut a test corner before the full box.

Fits on 299mm x 274mm sheet (11.8" x 10.8")

  • 12 staves, each 24.4 mm wide with a 12.2 mm tab top and bottom. Inside 91 mm across the flats; base plate 112 mm across.
  • Push each stave's bottom tab into the base plate, then lower the top ring onto the top tabs. Glue the tabs if the fit is loose.
  • Glue the lid insert centred under the lid cap; it drops into the ring opening with 0.6 mm of play.
  • Cut one stave and the top ring first to check the tab fit; adjust the kerf if the tabs are loose or will not go in.

Drag an engraving in the preview to move it.

Good for

  • Tea-light lanterns with a glow between the staves
  • Round jewelry and keepsake boxes
  • Gift boxes with an engraved lid

How it works

  1. Set the size. Pick a preset or type your own measurements. Every box is drawn to your real material thickness.
  2. Personalize it. Add a name, a message or an image, drag it into place, and see it on the box before you download.
  3. Download and cut. The SVG imports at true size in LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge. Cut a test corner first if you are unsure of your kerf.

FAQ

How many staves should I use?

Around 16 to 24 suits a hand-held box. Fewer, wider staves give a faceted look, and more staves give a rounder one.

How is it held together?

Each stave has a tab at the top and bottom that fits a slot in the plate and ring. Glue only the tabs.

Does it need thin material?

Thinner wood (3 to 4 mm) keeps the slots narrow, so the outline looks rounder.

How much does it cost?

Your first download of each box type is free, engraving included. After that, 10 exports are $5, or $19 unlocks unlimited downloads for life. An export covers both the SVG and the DXF of the same design, and downloading it again is free.

Does it work with LightBurn, xTool, Glowforge and OMTech?

Yes. The SVG is in millimetres and imports at true size. Cut lines are red and engraving is filled black. The DXF is R12 for RDWorks and CAD software.

What kerf should I use?

Start with 0.15 mm for a CO2 laser or 0.08 mm for a diode, and cut a test corner. Every part is drawn half a kerf oversize so the joints press-fit.

Are my designs and logos uploaded?

No. The boxes, the engraving and any image you add are all handled in your browser. A saved draft stays on your device so your work survives signing in and checking out.
