Laser Cut Tray Generator
Set the length, width and wall height, pick the shape of the end walls, and add hand cut-outs. The finger joints, the handle web and the sheet layout are worked out for you. Engrave a name or monogram on the base.
Presets
Size
Inside length, along the long walls.
Inside width, between the long walls.
Inside height of the long walls.
End walls
How much taller the end walls are at the centre. 30 to 50 mm looks right on most trays.
Handles
About 100 mm fits four fingers.
From the top of the end wall to the top of the cut-out. Leave enough wood to lift by.
Joints
0 picks about twice the material thickness.
Material
Enter your real sheet thickness; 3 mm plywood is often 2.8 to 3.2. Cut a test corner before the full box.
Personalize
Engrave a name, monogram, message or your own logo on any face. Preview it here for free.
Your first tray download is free, engraving included.
Fits on 588mm x 436mm sheet (23.1" x 17.2")
- Glue the long walls and end walls into the bottom, then glue the corners. Sand the joints flush.
- The engraved side of the bottom goes up, inside the tray. Engrave the walls on the side that faces out.
- Cut one corner as a test first: loose fingers mean you need more kerf, tight ones less.
- Finish with a food-safe oil if the tray will carry food.
- For a tray this long, 4 to 6 mm plywood carries dishes better than 3 mm.
The parts need a bed of about 588 x 436 mm. Check it against your laser, or cut in two sheets.
Drag an engraving in the preview to move it.
Good for
- Serving and breakfast trays
- Bread, fruit and snack trays
- Desk and vanity trays with a personal engraving
How it works
- Set the size. Pick a preset or type your own measurements. Every box is drawn to your real material thickness.
- Personalize it. Add a name, a message or an image, drag it into place, and see it on the box before you download.
- Download and cut. The SVG imports at true size in LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge. Cut a test corner first if you are unsure of your kerf.
FAQ
What end-wall shapes are there?
Arched (a shallow curve up to the centre), sloped (straight slopes with a flat centre) and straight (a uniformly taller end wall).
How big should the handle cut-out be?
About 100 by 30 mm suits an adult hand. The tool keeps enough wood above the cut-out so it does not snap.
What material and finish?
4 to 6 mm plywood for trays that carry dishes, 3 mm for a light bread or fruit tray. Sand the joints flush and finish with a food-safe oil.
How much does it cost?
Your first download of each box type is free, engraving included. After that, 10 exports are $5, or $19 unlocks unlimited downloads for life. An export covers both the SVG and the DXF of the same design, and downloading it again is free.
Does it work with LightBurn, xTool, Glowforge and OMTech?
Yes. The SVG is in millimetres and imports at true size. Cut lines are red and engraving is filled black. The DXF is R12 for RDWorks and CAD software.
What kerf should I use?
Start with 0.15 mm for a CO2 laser or 0.08 mm for a diode, and cut a test corner. Every part is drawn half a kerf oversize so the joints press-fit.
Are my designs and logos uploaded?
No. The boxes, the engraving and any image you add are all handled in your browser. A saved draft stays on your device so your work survives signing in and checking out.
