Laser Cut Wooden Gift Envelope Generator
A wooden envelope from three layers of 3 mm plywood: a back whose flap bends on a living hinge, a spacer that forms the pocket, and a front engraved with paper-envelope seams. Two small magnets hold it shut under a two-piece wax seal. Pick a 5x7 card, cash or gift card size, or enter your own pocket size.

- Cut the hinge test strip first and bend it 180 degrees round a 15 mm dowel. If it cracks, this sheet is too stiff for the envelope's curl; try another sheet before cutting the whole envelope.
- The blue lines are hinge cuts; cut them before the red outlines. The black seam lines on the front are engraving, not cuts.
- Pocket 184 x 130 x 3 mm: fits a 5x7 in card, US bills, gift cards.
- Magnets: two 10 x 3 mm discs. Let them snap together and mark the outside face of each. Glue one into the hole near the flap tip with its mark facing out (under the seal) and the other into the front with its mark facing into the pocket, so they always attract.
- Glue the spacer onto the inside of the back, lined up with the bottom and sides, open end towards the hinge. Then glue the front on top, engraved side out and finger notch at the top. Keep glue out of the pocket and off the hinge band.
- Glue the scalloped seal base over the flap magnet, then the seal top onto the base.
- Closed, the band rolls into a curl 21.3 mm across and the flap lands 15.9 mm below the top edge, right over the front magnet; the magnets pull it the last few mm.
The parts need a bed of about 415 x 378 mm. Check it against your laser, or cut in two sheets.
Your download is the flat cut sheet. Switch to it to drag an engraving into place.
Good for
- Gift card and cash holders for weddings, birthdays and graduations
- Keepsake envelopes for a card or a letter
- Craft-fair and Etsy gift envelopes with a name on the front
How it works
- Set the size. Pick a preset or type your own measurements. Every box is drawn to your real material thickness.
- Personalize it. Add a name, a message or an image, drag it into place, and see it on the box before you download.
- Download and cut. The SVG imports at true size in LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge. Cut a test corner first if you are unsure of your kerf.
FAQ
What fits inside?
The card size has a 184 x 130 mm pocket that takes a 5x7 in card. The cash size (169 x 85 mm) takes US bills and gift cards, and the small gift card size takes one card with room to slide. Choose two spacers for a pocket twice as deep.
How does the flap close?
The flap bends on a living hinge cut into the back and is held shut by two magnets, one under the seal and one in the front. The tool works out where the flap lands, so the magnets line up.
What do I need besides wood?
Three layers of 3 mm plywood (four with a deep pocket), wood glue and two 10 x 3 mm or 8 x 2 mm disc magnets.
Do I need a test cut?
Yes. Cut the included hinge test strip first and bend it round a small dowel. Plywood varies, and the strip shows whether your sheet will make the curl before you cut the whole envelope.
How much does it cost?
Your first download is free with a free account, engraving included. After that, 10 exports are $5, or $19 unlocks unlimited downloads for life. An export covers both the SVG and the DXF of the same design, and downloading it again is free.
Does it work with LightBurn, xTool, Glowforge and OMTech?
Yes. The SVG is in millimetres and imports at true size. Cut lines are red and engraving is filled black. The DXF is R12 for RDWorks and CAD software.
What kerf should I use?
Start with 0.15 mm for a CO2 laser or 0.08 mm for a diode, and cut a test corner. Every part is drawn half a kerf oversize so the joints press-fit.
Are my designs and logos uploaded?
No. The boxes, the engraving and any image you add are all handled in your browser. A saved draft stays on your device so your work survives signing in and checking out.
